Your Session
Sessions can take place at either your home or we can meet outside at a scenic spot. Sessions are very relaxed. I am a natural light photographer. Having said that, I require a large amount of natural light to capture the perfect portrait. I have found that planning your session to take place either early morning or late afternoon captures the best photos, so please plan accordingly.
General Clothing
My motto in clothing is this: simple goes a long way! I like to keep the focus on the subject; therefore simple clothing choices are the best for creating timeless portraits.
I suggest loose fitting solid colors, avoiding busy patterns or logos/words. Blue's Clues is cute for playtime, but can look out of place for your child's portraits. Jeans, overalls, sun/slip dresses; khakis are classics and photograph well.
Hats can also be very effective; as well as other accessories such as scarves or funky belts. If children are being photographed together, clothes that are similar in style give a more coordinated look. Bare feet are especially fun, and kids love it too. Consider dressing in the color white sparingly, for this color often refects light strongly.
Bare skin is my favorite on newborns and babies. You may have other clothes to put on your baby, but keep in mind; your baby may get grouchy when there are too many clothing changes. Diaper covers are a great idea too!
If you need help, I suggest bringing a few outfits that you are considering and allowing me to help you make the final choice on what would best suit the look and feel you are going for in your child's portrait.
Let's say, however, you want a trendier look for your child. Well then things change a bit! I love the timeless looks in the clothing mentioned above, but also enjoy photographing a session with a more "hip" feel to it. I still caution against bold logos or cartoon characters on clothing.
Family Sessions
Family photographs are special, a legacy of whom your family was for future generations to enjoy. Clothing choices are just as important for family sessions, as other sessions. I highly suggest clothing for each family member that has the same tone, not necessarily the same color. Please be weary of stripes, plaid, words and logos on your family's clothing. These things can be a distration from your beautiful family. Oh, and bare feet are great for family sessions too!
In conclusion, clothing choices are important. As your photographer, I want you to see who your child is, and not just what outfit they were wearing. Clothing should compliment your child's look, not complicate it.
Proofs
I will have your proofs ready for review within approximately 14 business days or sooner from the day of your photo session. You are welcome to share the online gallery with friends and families so that they may make their own order from your prints. Your proofs will be available for 3 weeks then it will automatically be deleted. There is a $45 relisting fee to republish your proofs online.
Orders
To order your prints, payment must be made in full before the order will be professionally printed. Most orders will take 10 days to be received, some can take longer depending on what you order, ie gallery mounts or canvas prints can take longer. All checks must be made payable to Coleen Verner or you may also send payment through PayPal (extra fees will apply for PayPal payments).
